Believe In The Light
John 12:12-27
John 12:10-11 But the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also, because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.
John 12:12-13 The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ The King of Israel!”
John 12:14-15 Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written: “Fear not, daughter of Zion; Behold, your King is coming, Sitting on a donkey’s colt.”
Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey.
In His first coming, Jesus came lowly, riding a donkey – just and having salvation. He came to make Peace.
At his second coming, Jesus is coming in Glory! Riding on a white horse (Revelation 19). He’s coming to make War.
John 12:16 His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him and that they had done these things to Him.
John 12:17-19 Therefore the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of his tomb and raised him from the dead, bore witness. For this reason the people also met Him, because they heard that He had done this sign. The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, “You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, the world has gone after Him!”
People were there from around the world for Passover.
John 12:20-22 Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast. Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus.
A contrast here: The Jewish leaders were rejecting Jesus. The Greeks were seeking Jesus.
Romans 11:25-26 Blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved.
We are presently living in an age where Gentiles are being drawn into the bride of Christ. The day will come when the last Gentile is saved. Then Jesus will come for His church.
John 12:23 But Jesus answered them, saying, “The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified.”
John 2:4 My hour has not yet come.
John 7:6 My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.
John 7:8 My time has not yet fully come.
John 8:20 His hour had not yet come.
John 12:23 The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified.
Jesus lived according to the Fathers timing. That’s how we want to live too! Timing is everything!
Matthew 7:7-8 Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
A shining example of God’s timing in our church’s history is the acquisition of the church property!
John 12:24-25 Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
Luke 14:26 If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.
John 12:26 If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.
John 12:27 Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.
When troubled Jesus talked to His Father! That’s what we need to do too!
Mark 1:35-38 Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed. And Simon and those who were with Him searched for Him. When they found Him, they said to Him, “Everyone is looking for You.” But He said to them, “Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because for this purpose I have come forth.”
