John 16:25-32: “These things I have spoken to you in figurative language; but the time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language, but I will tell you plainly about the Father. In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you; for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God. I came forth from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and go to the Father.” His disciples said to Him, “See, now You are speaking plainly, and using no figure of speech! Now we are sure that You know all things, and have no need that anyone should question You. By this we believe that You came forth from God.” Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe? Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.”
John 16:33: These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
We’re currently studying the last 24 hours of Jesus’ earthly life! (On Christmas Eve we celebrate the first 24 hours.)
John 13-17 is called “The Upper Room Discourse”
It’s so INSIGHTFUL to listen to the things that were MOST IMPORTANT for Jesus to impart to His followers this last night before He was crucified.
John 16:33 are the LAST RECORDED WORDS that Jesus spoke to his disciples before leaving the upper room the night before He was crucified! (John 17)
John 16:33: These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have PEACE. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
One of the most beautiful things about being in Jesus is the PEACE we have! (Even in the most trying times!)
John 16:33: These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have PEACE. In the world you will have tribulation (trials, trouble, affliction, anguish, distress and frustration) but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
Tribulation (thlipsis): At the root of this Greek word it means to break, crush, press, compress, squeeze.
John 16:33: These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer [be courageous; be confident, be certain, be undaunted] I have overcome the world.
1 John 5:4: Everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.
Romans 8:18: For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
I want to finish our morning talking about PEACE.
Isaiah 9:6: For to us a child is born, to us a son is given. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
John 16:33: These things I have spoken to you, that in Me YOU may have [perfect] PEACE. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
John 14:27: PEACE I leave with you, My PEACE I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not (Stop) your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
John 20:19: Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “PEACE be with you.”
John 20:21: So Jesus said to them again, “PEACE to you!”
John 20:26: After eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “PEACE to you!”
Mark 4:39: Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “PEACE, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
John 16:33: These things I have spoken to you, that in Me YOU may have [perfect] PEACE. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
In Closing: I want to give you two of my LIFE VERSES!
Isaiah 26:3: You will keep him in PERFECT PEACE, whose mind is STAYED on You, because he trusts in You.
Isaiah 26:4 (Amp): So trust in the Lord (commit yourself to Him, lean on Him, hope confidently in Him) forever; for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages].
Philippians 4:6-7: Be ANXIOUS for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the PEACE OF GOD, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Romans 5:1-2: Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have PEACE with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and REJOICE in hope of the glory of God.
If you look to the world, you will be DISTRESSED!
If you look to your self, you will be DEPRESSED!
If you look to Jesus, you will find REST!
2 Thessalonians 3:16: Now may the LORD OF PEACE Himself give you HIS PEACE at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.
