WALKING in the Spirit
In STEP with Spirit
EARS to HEAR what the Spirit is saying
Rom 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith;
7 or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8 he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
You have to be willing to fail… if it’s not the Lord.
The Lord is NOT asking us to walk on a narrow ledge but a W I D E place. Community of Grace! (Where we humbly seek to allow the Holy Spirit to speak , move and minister through us.)
Struggling to be in step with the Holy Spirit is NORMAL.
Struggling is an important part of learning. Child walking (WORD) Heart ❤ of the Father
It’s encouraging to ME… to see Paul STRUGGLE to be IN STEP with the Holy Spirit (Acts 16)
Acts 16… Forbidden by the HS
It’s equally encouraging to ME… to see how Paul… in prison… displayed what can only be called GREAT SENSITIVITY to the Holy Spirit.

Luke 11:9 “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
Luke 11:11 If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
Luke 11:13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit
1 Corinthians 12:8-10:
- Word of wisdom: Receiving wisdom from God that you would not otherwise have. This gift includes the supernatural ability to skillfully distill insight and discernment into excellent advice, recommending the best course of action at the best time.
- Word of knowledge: Supernatural perception and discernment, giving knowledge for the purpose of ministering to others. Word of knowledge can also include supernatural ability to discover, analyze, and communicate truth for the benefit of others.
- Faith: The supernatural ability to believe God for what is not yet seen. This gift includes vision for the future and confidence that God will bring it into reality, even in spite of circumstances or contradictory obstacles that stand in the way.
- Gifts of healing: The supernatural ability to serve as an instrument through which God brings healing and restoration, which can be in the physical realm but can also extend to emotional, relational, and spiritual areas of life.
- Miracles: The supernatural ability to serve as an instrument through which God does miraculous acts.
- Prophecy: Speaking forth that which God spontaneously brings to mind. This gift can include giving words to a dream, vision, or special word or message. Mainly includes forth telling the heart and mind of God, but can also include foretelling of something future. Primary purpose is encouragement, strengthening, and comfort (1 Cor. 14:3). Prophecy is from God to people, whereas tongues are spoken from people to God. Prophecy is not equal in authority to Scripture. Believers are instructed to not despise prophecy but to test all things (1 Thess. 5:19-22).
- Distinguishing between spirits: The supernatural ability to discern truth and error, and to distinguish between what is genuinely from God, and what is demonic, human, or carnal.
- Tongues: The supernatural ability to speak and sing to God from the spirit and heart in an unknown language. When exercised, this gift builds up the individual who practices using it. In a church gathering, this gift can build up the body of believers if and when there is an accompanying interpretation.
- Interpretation of Tongues: The supernatural ability to translate a spoken tongue into words that others can understand, so that others can be edified by understanding what was spoken in tongues.
1 Corinthians 12:28-31:
- Apostle: The supernatural ability to pioneer new churches, and to begin new ministries. The word “apostle” literally means “sent-one.” Missionaries and those who are particularly effective in working with other cultures may have this gift. The gift of apostle is not the same as the office of an apostle. *Those who had the office of an apostle in the first century were physical eyewitnesses of Jesus after his resurrection, and they were used by God to speak and write the Word of God. The office of apostle does not exist today, but the gift does.
- Prophet: Those who regularly practice the gift of prophecy and are used by God to give prophetic words. (See description of the gift of prophecy.)
- Teacher: Those who regularly practice the gift of teaching and are used by God to teach the Bible. *Those who have the gift of teaching may or may not hold the office of an elder or pastor. (See description of the gift of teaching.)
- Miracles: (Same description as previously listed.)
- Kinds of Healings: (Same description as previously listed.)
- Helps: Similar to the gift of service. This gift includes the supernatural ability to increase the effectiveness of other people and other ministries by being helpful in mainly practical kinds of ways.
- Administration: The supernatural ability to implement vision. The Greek word for this gift speaks of a helmsman who steers a ship to its destination. This gift helps provide organization, management, processes, and planning in order that vision can be accomplished.
- Tongues: (Same description as previously listed.)
Romans 12:6-8:
- Prophecy: (Same description as previously listed.)
- Serving: The supernatural ability to see and care for the physical and practical needs of people through a variety of means. The Greek word for this gift is the same as “deacon.” All believers are called to “serve” generally, and some are called to serve in the office of deacon.
- Teaching: The supernatural ability to clearly explain and apply the truth of God’s Word so that others can learn and grow spiritually.
- Exhortation: The supernatural ability to apply God’s truth in other’s lives, helping people to respond to truth by putting it into practice in their lives.
- Giving: The supernatural ability to contribute material resources to others and to the work of God, with generosity and cheerfulness. Believers with this spiritual gift do not necessarily need to be wealthy.
- Leadership: The supernatural ability to discern vision and purpose for a group and to rally and motivate others toward fulfilling that vision. Often this involves communicating goals, delegating tasks, and developing people.
- Mercy: The supernatural ability to deeply empathize, listen, and engage with compassion toward people who are suffering in various ways such as physical, emotional, mental, relational, and financial. People with the gift of mercy are often drawn to counseling types of ministry.
Ephesians 4:11:
- Apostle: (Same description as previously listed.)
- Prophet: (Same description as previously listed.)
- Evangelist: The supernatural ability to lead unbelievers to a saving knowledge of Christ, where they put personal trust in Jesus Christ. Some with this gift are used in larger group evangelism, and others are used more regularly in personal evangelism.
- Pastor-Teacher: The supernatural ability to lead, nourish, feed, care for, and protect a “flock” of believers. The pastor’s primary responsibility is to feed (i.e., teach) the flock.
1 Peter 4:10-11:
“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
- “Whoever speaks” (i.e., teaching, exhortation, prophecy, word of wisdom, word of knowledge, etc.).
- “Whoever serves” (i.e. serving, helps, leadership, administration, etc.).
