Go & Sin No More
John 8:1-11
1 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
Can you picture the Mount of Olives. ( 2400 & 2700 ft )
Olive trees 2000 years old. Garden of Gethsemane.
2 Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them.
Jesus is the Good Shepherd. Chief Shepherd. Teaching the Word or God is the way a good shepherd feeds the flock of God. John 21 Feed my sheep Ephesians 4
Jesus was a masterful teacher. The common people heard him gladly Mark 12:37. They understood. Parables.
3 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, 4 they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act.
These religious leaders are in CONTRAST to Jesus.
This was UNJUST > < Jesus is the JUST One!
In CONTRAST… Jesus is called “The friend of sinners.”
In CONTRAST… Jesus is COMPASSIONATE toward those caught in sin.
In CONTRAST… to these religious leaders who caught this woman in sin… Jesus came to FREE her from sin!
Revelation 1:5 To Him who loves us and has FREED us from our sins by his blood,
In CONTRAST… to Jesus’ warm, loving, COMPASSION these religious leaders were cold, harsh and exacting!
5 Now Moses, in the law (7th command), commanded us that such should be stoned.
Deuteronomy 22:22 “If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then both of them shall die – the man that lay with the woman, and the woman; so you shall put away the EVIL from Israel.
Evil – How far our culture has strayed.
Sin– John 8:11.
Joseph (Gen 39:9) said “How can I do this great wickedness & sin against God.”
Ephesians 5:3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints.. 5 For this you know, that no fornicator.. has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 7 Therefore do not be partakers with them.
5 Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?
Matthew 5:27 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
6 This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear.
If… Jesus rejected the law of Moses His CREDIBILITY would be questioned. If… Jesus held to the Mosaic law this woman would have to DIE. (3rd Solution)
7 So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin (adultery) among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”
8 And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.
John 8:9 Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
10 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?”
11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; Go and Sin No More.”
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
17 For God did NOT send His Son into the world to CONDEMN the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is CONDEMNED ALREADY, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Romans 8:1 There is therefore now NO CONDEMNATION to those who are in Christ Jesus..
10 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?”
11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; Go and Sin No More.”
This is the GLORIOUS Gospel
Jesus FREES us from the PENALTY of sin!
Jesus FREES us from the POWER of sin!
1 Corinthians 6:9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
