John 15:1: I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.
John 15:2: Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes / cleans, that it may bear more fruit.
John 15:3: You are already clean / pruned because of the word which I have spoken to you.
John 15:4: Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
Abide (over 10 times)
Abide: To be vitally connected to; continue in, dwell in, live in, remain in, stay in, persevere, stand firm
John 15:5: I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
🔘No fruit 🔘Fruit 🔘More fruit 🔘Much fruit
John 15:6: If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
John 15:7: If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
John 15:8: By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
John 15:9: As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.
John 15:10: If you KEEP (obey) My commandments, you will abide in My love…
This verse gets our attention because of how many times Jesus repeats this message of OBEDIENCE! (Last 24 hrs)
John 14:15: If you love Me, KEEP (obey) My commandments.
John 14:21: He who has My commandments and KEEPS (obeys) them, it is he who loves Me.
John 14:23: Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will KEEP (obey) My word.”
John 14:24: He who does not love Me does not KEEP (obey) My words.
Our text
John 15:10: If you KEEP (obey) My commandments, you will abide in My love.
As we listen to Jesus… we learn from Jesus that..
TRUE LOVE for Jesus is NOT measured by our words, feelings, emotions or passion, but by our OBEDIENCE!
Matthew 7:24-25: Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a WISE MAN who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
Matthew 7:26-27: But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a FOOLISH MAN who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.
John 15:10: If you KEEP (obey) My commandments (instructions), you will abide in My love,
Is my LOVE for Jesus based on words, feelings, emotion or am I OBEYING Jesus’ instructions?
- Born Again
John 3:5: Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”
John 3:7: Do not marvel that I said to you, “You MUST be born again.”
- Pray Jesus instructed us to pray daily Matthew 6
- Forgiveness (Or is your life marked by Unforgiveness)
Matthew 6:14-15: For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
- Reconciled To Others
Matthew 5:23-24: Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. (Patsy)
- Give
Luke 6:38: Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”
Acts 20:35: And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
- Serve
John 13:15: For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.
- Making Disciples WORD- culture of our church
John 15:10: If you keep (obey) My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept (obeyed) My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
Jesus not only taught us OBEDIENCE… But Jesus modeled OBEDIENCE for us!
Jesus’ love for the Father was DEMONSTRATED NOT by words, feelings or emotion, but by OBEDIENCE!
Philipians 2:8: And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became OBEDIENT to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
John 15:11: These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.
Jesus was joyful! When you read the gospels, don’t FAIL to see His Joy!
John 15:11: These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be FULL.
John 15:11(Amp): I have told you these things, that My joy may be in you, and that your joy and gladness may be of full measure and complete and overflowing.
How is it that we have Jesus’ full, overflowing JOY?
