Peace in the Storm
Mark 4:35
Mark 4:35 On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.”
This was the Word that was meant to sustain the disciples in the storm. The Word of God SUSTAINS US in the storm. We’re in a storm! Now it’s more important than ever to spend time in the Word of God daily. God’s Word will SUSTAIN you!

Mark 4:36 Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him.
They were ALL in this STORM together – so too with us! We’re ALL in this TOGETHER.
These are unprecedented times that are giving us unprecedented opportunities! Opportunities for your business, our church, and in your neighborhood.
Mark 4:37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling.
Mount Hermon is 9,000 ft above the Sea of Galilee (700 ft below sea level). This was no ordinary storm – it was a great windstorm! So too, we are in GREAT STORM!
Types of storms in God’s Word:
- Storms of direction – Paul (Acts 27). Let’s be open to God redirecting us.
- Storms of correction – Jonah. Let’s be correctable! Pray our nation and our world will turn to God. The world is in a moral FREE FALL!
Revelation 9:20 But the rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues did NOT repent of their murders or their sorceries (drug use) or their sexual immorality or their thefts.
- Storms of perfection – James 1:2-4
James 1:2-4 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience (endurance). 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect (mature) and complete, lacking nothing.
- Storms of destruction – Mark 4:35-41
What Satan meant for evil, God meant for GOOD!
- Jesus modeled for us here REST in the storm.
- It’s in the storm that Jesus revealed Himself to His disciples as Deity.
- It’s in the storm that we learn who Jesus really is.
Mark 4:37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling.
Mark 4:38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow.
Jesus our example was sleeping – RESTING in the storm. It is really possible to be RESTING in the storm! SUSTAINED!
Acts 12: Peter had learned this REST in the storm. We need to learn it too.
Mark 4:38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?“
1 Peter 5:7 ( Amp.) Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.
Mark 4:39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
Jesus brings PEACE in the fiercest of storms!
John 14:27 PEACE I leave with you, My PEACE I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not (Stop) your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me YOU may have [perfect] PEACE. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in PERFECT PEACE, whose mind is STAYED on You, because he trusts in You.
Isaiah 26:4 (Amp) So trust in the Lord (commit yourself to Him, lean on Him, hope confidently in Him) forever; for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages].
Jesus can CALM the most troubled heart with a GREAT CALM!
Mark 4:40 But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?”
Jesus doesn’t want you to be AFRAID. The Lord is going to take us to the other side of this STORM. Storms pass!
Which describes your faith?
- NO faith
- LITTLE faith
- GREAT faith
Mark 4:41 And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”
Who is Jesus? That’s a question we all have to answer!
Who do YOU say I Am?
Matthew 16:16-17 “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.”
One more word – it’s from Mark 5. Jesus our example is RESTING and REACHING our world: a tormented man on the other side of the Sea of Galilee. Jesus is our example!
Q. How can we reach our world?
A. ONE person at a time!
