Stirring Up Love
Hebrews 10:24
Hebrews 10:23
Let us hold fast (firm) the confession of our hope without wavering (resolute), for He who promised is faithful.
Hebrews 10:25
Not forsaking (neglect, stay away, give up, abandon) the assembling (gathering) of ourselves together, as is the habit of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
Hebrews 10:24
And let us consider (concerned, encourage, motivate) one another in order to stir up love and good works.
What do you think of when you think of stirring up love?
Matthew 24:4-7
- Many will be deceived
- Wars and rumors of wars
- Nation rise against nation
- Kingdom against kingdom
- Famines
- Pestilences
- Earthquakes in various places
Matthew 24:8
All these are the beginning of sorrows.
Matthew 24:12
And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.
Hebrews 10:24
And let us consider (concerned, encourage, motivate) one another in order to stir up love and good works.
1. Love for God
Mark 12:29-30
Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.
Deuteronomy 6:4-8
This is the greatest heritage we can give our kids!
1 Corinthians 2:26-29
For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish (moros) things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence.
2. Love For One Another
Mark 12:31
And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.
The order is significant. Our country is in trouble – we have forsaken God!
Jeremiah 2:13
My people have committed two evils.
The answer to all the questions is Jesus! The answer is what Jesus taught us about God. Our relationships should be ordered vertically first (between ourselves and God) and then horizontally (ourselves to others).
